Nestled among splendid landscapes with the background of the majestic mounts of Lavarella, Conturines, Settsass and Lagazuoi, the village of San Cassiano, though small and quiet at first sight, turns out to be incredibly varied and thus even more fascinating in its harmonious diversity. Here rustic charm is perfectly combined with modern technologies, rigorous respect for the ancient traditions goes well with the most cordial hospitality, numerous sporting activities alternate with various cultural events and gourmet recipes complete flavoursome local dishes of peasant origins.
The small but charming pedestrian centre of San Cassiano with its picturesque church, inviting shops and bakeries, cosy bars and characteristic markets of local specialities conveys immediately the feeling of genuineness, intimacy and safety. But it is not a usual idyllic Alpine village – San Cassiano, with its richest tourism offer, is able to satisfy even the most demanding visitors. The village has its own sports area with tennis, football and beach volleyball fields and a playground for children with a go-kart track and various inflatables. 3 km away from San Cassiano, in the locality Sarè/Armentarola you will find the biggest Cross-country Skiing Centre of Alta Badia with a Nordic ski school.
However most guests come here following the call of the mountains – at their disposal there is the modern cable car of San Cassiano that in just a few minutes takes you up to Piz Sorega (2003 m a.s.l.), where real mountain adventures for adults and kids begin! In winter skiers can enjoy the perfectly groomed slopes of Alta Badia between San Cassiano, La Villa, Badia, Corvara and Colfosco with the possibility to access easily the other areas of Dolomiti Superski. To return from Piz Sorega back to the village you may choose between the cable car, a blue slope, a red slope and a toboggan run – this choice makes the mountains really accessible for the whole family.
In summer the vast and sunny plateau between Piz Sorega, Piz la Ila, Col Alto and Pralongià is ideal for walking and cycling in the breath-taking scenery full of Movimënt parks, mountain farms and Alpine huts. Besides, numerous hiking paths branch off from San Cassiano in the direction of the Nature Parks Fanes-Sennes-Prags and Puez-Geisler, allowing to admire all the beauty of the untouched flora and fauna of the Dolomites, UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.
Whatever fascinates you most in the mountains, can be found for sure in San Cassiano and its surroundings !
